The latter was allegedly tortured and beaten to death by his wife Jagriti. The incident was reported from Singh’s South Avenue residence on Monday evening.
The main accused Jagriti Singh, wife of Dhananjay Singh, who represents Jaunpur seat (Uttar Pardesh) in Parliament, is a dentist in Ram Manohar Lohia hospital. Jagriti has been accused to beating and torturing her maid Rakhi for days. Jagriti has also been booked for assaulting and causing head injuries to 17-year-old house servant Rampal.
Rakhi had allegedly been smelted with hot iron rods and kicked repeatedly. She had burn marks all over her body and injuries on the chest, stomach, arms and legs.
‘Although she has been torturing her for past many months, but the frequency of beating went up since 1 November,’ said a senior police official. According to the police sources the victim sustained the injuries on the head, arms, legs and chest. Azad Kumar, an electrician who had recently visited the house, also claimed the BSP MP’s wife used to beat the people employed at her residence. ‘When I asked her why she beat up the servants, she slapped me,’ he alleged.
Dhananjay said his wife had called him three days ago and said the maid had injured herself after a fall from the terrace of the house. ‘On Monday I again got a call from Jagriti, she said the maid had died. I came from Jaunpur and informed the police’, he said.
The victim is reportedly a native of Bangladesh and living in Kolkata, she came to Delhi to work at Dhananjay’s house through a placement agency around 10 months ago.
Meanwhile, MP Dhananjay Singh said that he came to know about the case on Monday evening. Singh and his wife are involved in divorce proceeding for the past seven month.
An FIR has already been registered against Jagriti at Chankyapuri police station under sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 344 (wrongful confinement) of Indian Penal code and Juvenile Justice Act. Police are mulling to add sections under Bonded Labour Act for hiring a juvenile.
