The BJP on the other hand is keeping all its options open and kept its cards close to its chest. They are yet to accept or reject the outside support offer made by the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Sources said, Shiv Sena expressed its willingness to back BJP if it got a ‘dignified offer’ similar to what it had extended to the BJP in 1995 by making Gopinath Munde as deputy chief minister in the Shiv Sena-led government. Not the least then other BJP leaders were also given plum posts and the Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray is expecting the same gesture this time.
Speculations over Sena’s pitch for deputy CM’s post gained momentum after BJP ruled out forming a government in alliance with the NCP. But for the sake of negotiations, BJP is also exploring the option of forming a minority government with outside support. The ‘minority government’ option is being examined as the BJP does not want to part with the portfolios of home, finance and irrigation to Sena leaders.
BJP has started consulting with the independent candidates who had won the assembly poll. There are reports that union home minister Rajnath Singh and BJP general secretary JP Nadda will explore all the possibilities during their visit to the state after Diwali festival. They will also declare the name of CMÂ after consultation. State BJP president Devendra Fadnavis and union minister Nitin Gadkari are the frontrunners for the post.
