Maha hands over Rajan cases to CBI, Doval keeps watch

Sources in the government told Millennium Post that given the sensitive nature of the case NSA has now taken over charge to ensure Rajan’s safe custody. “There are speculations that arrested don may provide us outdated information that could lead us nowhere, but whatever he is a important catch for India which NSA understands better than anyone else,” said an agency official.

Doval did not monitor the deportation process till the sudden demand by Rajan for safe custody. As Rajan claimed a threat to his life from police moles, intelligence agencies were forced to re-think the plan. Ajit Doval and Home Minister Rajnath Singh  on Wednesday took stock of preparations for bringing Rajan to India and the home minister also directed NSA to draw the road-map for future investigations.

Speaking on NSA’s role in the Investigations, former Maharashtra ATS chief KP Raghuvanshi told  Millennium Post that once credibility is questioned, morale goes down and in this case the suspicion has already been raised in the minds of the people against the Mumbai police, now it will be a good call if a central agency investigates all the cases. He, however, doubted whether CBI would be able to connect the dots among existing gangs in metropolis better than the local police.

In an unusual move, palpably to avoid controversy, the Maharashtra government on Thursday evening of its own volition handed over all the cases related to the gangster to  CBI.

Rajan made an explosive claim on Tuesday that some officials in Mumbai police were in collusion with India’s most wanted terrorist. “In the past few police moles were active but to say that it was only for Dawood, is not true. There were officials in Mumbai police who were working for both the gangs. But, that situation may not be true for now,” Raghuvanshi said on Rajan’s claim.

Meanwhile, late on Thursday Rajan was escorted to Bali airport from Denpasar police station in a bullet-proof vehicle for his deportation to India. Earlier, his deportation was delayed due to a volcanic eruption which had stopped all flight services.
