Lucky to be away from controversy: Akshay

Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan have recently been in the midst of controversies, but Akshay Kumar says he has been lucky not to have been a victim of any such incident.

'Maybe I escaped controversies, maybe I was not caught. No, it is not like that... There are situations when controversies are made and controversies are created out of nothing,' said Akshay.

'Some actors fell into that. But no one wants to get caught in any controversy; everyone wants to hear good things about themselves. It is situations that make you a victim of some controversy. I feel I am lucky enough not to become a victim of any controversy. Maybe I escaped from it,' he added.

The actor last made some negative news during the 2009 Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai. He invited trouble by asking wife Twinkle Khanna to unzip his jeans during a show. But he has no regrets about it.

'I would still say that unbuttoning thing was not wrong,' the 44-year-old said. Kumar, who makes a comeback to action film with Rowdy Rathore, is also keen on doing negative roles, something similar to his act in Ajnabee.

'I like doing negative roles but something like the one I did in Ajnabee where the villain is not just to beat up. There should be some material as well. If I get something like that, then I'll definitely do it,' Kumar, a fan of Bollywood's yesteryear villain Ranjeet, said. The actor says actors are totally driven by audience's preferences.

'We are like products, we present what the audience likes. People love when Shah Rukh does a romantic film, people want me to do action so I am doing action, they want me to do comedy so I do comedy,' said Akshay.

He says it is risky to do something out-of-the-box.

'Sometimes there are things which we like and present to the audience, that is called experimental. I did 8X10 Tasveer which was more of an experimental film, to make myself happy. But it made the distributors sad,' said Akshay.

Akshay became a mass hero with films like Mohra, Mr and Mrs Khiladi, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Welcome, Housefull and the Khiladi series.

Akshay's next is Rowdy Rathore, releasing 1 June. Besides this, he will be seen in varied films like sci-fi thriller Joker, and real-life heist drama and his co-production Khiladi 786.
