Lt Guv seeks details on progress of CAG audit of power discoms

‘The Lt Governor has sought information on the progress of the CAG audit. That apart, the power situation in the city was also discussed at the meeting,’ said a senior official.

The high-level meeting was attended by chief secretary SK Srivastava and senior officials of the power department.

ADAG chairman Anil Ambani had recently met Jung and is understood to have discussed the CAG audit of the two power distribution companies run by his group along with other issues related to electricity supply.

Sources said that the AAP regime’s recommendation to Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission to revoke the licenses of BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd and BSES Yamuna Power Ltd if they failed to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply figured in the meeting.

However, officials at the LG Secretariat had described Ambani’s hour-long meeting with Jung as a ‘courtesy call’.

The previous AAP government had ordered a CAG audit of the power discoms in Delhi with the BSES discoms having expressed their unhappiness over the move.

Kejriwal had accused BSES discoms of trying to ‘blackmail’ the government by threatening power cuts of up to 10 hours a day and had warned them of strict action, including the possible cancellation of licenses. The BSES discoms had warned the government last month of 8-10 hours power cuts a day, citing a funds crunch.

The BSES Yamuna Power Ltd and BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd, which together supply power to 70 per cent of Delhi, owe around Rs 4,000 crore to Delhi government-run power generation and transmission companies.
