Lt Governor celebrates Earth Day with children

Lt. Governor of Delhi, Tejendra Khanna, participated in an ‘Earth Day’ celebration at Sanjay Van, Vasant Kunj on Monday, where more than 800 students from various schools  were present. While addressing the school children Lt. Governer said that ‘children play a vital role in keeping the national capital green as they take care of trees’. Khanna requested children to inculcate the habit of conservation of natural resources such as water and  power.

He exhorted students to plant more trees, avoid using plastic bags and concentrate on the three ‘R’s i.e. to Reduce, Re-use and Re-cycle.

He said that ‘protecting earth is every person’s and every country’s responsibility. While climate change is the greatest challenge of our time, it also presents unprecedented opportunity to build a healthy, prosperous, economy with clean energy which would be beneficial for the future.’

The Lt. Governor lauded the role of Delhi’s residents in their earnest endeavour to make Delhi a pollution-free city. In his address he said that   ‘environment protection should be part of our culture and tradition but our efforts have not yet reached the peak of conservation of natural resources’.

He also said that ‘on this Earth Day let us spread the message to protect the environment, and make Delhi a better, greener and cleaner place to live in’.  

Earth Day is the most widely-celebrated international environmental event. It is a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s environment.
