‘LPG consumers can change distributor’

In a move to end hegemony of LPG distributors, petroleum minster M Veerappa Moily on Friday announced a policy of portability for the consumers. Launching LPG customer empowering initiatives as part of Project Lakshya, Moily said the consumer would have a choice to change their distributor if they are unhappy with their services. He said distributors would be clubbed in clusters in an area within 10 to 15-km radius.

If a consumer faces problems with delivery or other issues, they could change their distributor available in that cluster. Pilot project on distributor portability was launched in Chandigarh last Friday. It will be expanded to 25 more districts in 2013-14.

Moily said, ‘This will create competition amongst distributors which will in-turn improve service to consumers.’

Distributors will be closely watched and rated according to their delivery performance. Now each distributor is being automatically rated from 5 stars to no star on a graded scale using transaction data.

Launching the new IT and web enabled initiatives to make distribution of domestic LPG more customer friendly, the minister said, ‘Now customers can view the delivery pattern of their distributor and compare it with other distributors in their area.’
