The British School in the high-security Chanakyapuri area was locked down for an hour on Thursday afternoon after an anonymous caller threatened to attack the facility with an AK-47 rifle.
According to the police, the school reported about the threat around 1 pm after which an extensive security drill was initiated.
“The school authorities informed us about receiving a call at around 1 pm. The caller claimed he was armed with an AK-47 and threatened to kill all students,” said Jatin Narwal, Deputy Commissioner of Police.
“Several police teams were rushed to the school and its entry and exit points were closed. A thorough search was conducted in all the classrooms, washrooms and storerooms for an hour. It turned out to be a hoax call. The call was made on the reception landline of the school,” the official said.
Though no case has been registered in this regard so far, efforts are on to trace the caller and probe is underway. On the other hand, the call could not be traced as it was a VOIP call, added Narwal.
“We ensured that all the students were sent back home safely after police informed us it was a hoax call and there was no threat. The campus is safe and secure and everybody is at home. All the security protocols are in place at the school,” said the school authorities.
