Locals to protest against toll plaza at Noida E-way

The local villagers have warned of massive protest if any such move comes in to force. The authority, however, claimed that it is bound to collect toll under the agreement signed with the Jaypee group, the company which also maintains the Yamuna Expressway. A proposal has also been sent to the state government for final approval.

According to the reports, the YEIDA, in its last meeting held on 15 September, had allowed the Jaypee group to run toll plaza at the 25-kilometer long expressway. The authority, however, did not disclose the matter to public. ‘The agreement was finalised in 2003 but due to some reasons, it was not surfaced. Now we have decided to allow Jaypee to collect toll on the expressway,’ said an official requesting anonymity.

Notably, the carriageway was constructed by both Noida and Greater Noida Authority. The Jaypee group had neithe funded the project nor does it look after its maintenance.

Dushyant Nagar, convener of Kisan Sangharsh Samiti (KSS), said that they will oppose any such move and if required they will agitate. ‘They (authorities) must be ready to face wrath of farmers if they don’t withdraw the proposal,’ said Nagar adding that they are planning to hold a meet of farmers to decide future course of action. Former UP Minister and BJP leader from region, Naseeb Singh Gurjar, said that they will make all efforts to stop installation of toll at expressway.  The eight-lane expressway connects both Noida and Greater Noida on which more than eight lakh vehicles ply daily.
