Locals set ablaze car after it hit an e-rickshaw

In yet another incident of road rage, a Santro car was set ablaze when it accidentally hit an e-rickshaw in South-west Delhi’s Najafgarh area on Saturday evening.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 6.50 pm in Nangloi Sakrawati, a village in the outskirts of South-west Delhi near Najafgarh area when a speeding Santro car collided with an e-rickshaw.

Eyewitnesses claimed that it was a minor accident. The e-rickshaw driver who received minor injuries was taken to a nearby hospital where his condition is stated to be out of danger, said a senior police official.

Police said that locals of the village came out and the car driver was first thrashed after which his car was set on fire. This created tension in the area. Heavy police force have been deployed to control the situation. Meanwhile, several people have been booked under sections of rioting. However, police are yet to make arrests.

“The car driver of the Santro has received major injuries but is out of danger and is undergoing treatment at RR Hospital. The minor road accident infuriated the villagers to such an extent that it led to a sudden provocation which led the villagers set ablaze the Santro car,” said R A Sanjeev, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-west).

A case has been registered at the Najafgarh police station against unknown persons under sections of rioting. Police have increased their presence and are trying to identify the culprits who are involved in the crime.
