Local panchayat orders minor to abort child

A village panchayat in Dankaur area of Greater Noida has ordered a minor girl to abort her pregnancy because she belongs to a lower caste and her lover’s parents are against the marriage.
According to sources, the couple are school students and the boy offered to marry her in the panchayat called on Monday. But the boy’s parents are against the marriage.
The panchayat then ordered the boy’s family to pay compensation to girl’s parents and ordered the girl to abort the pregnancy.
The minor girl belongs to a poor family and is of low caste. According to sources, the panchayat had at one point decided to eliminate the couple, which was rejected as their parents agreed to settle the matter.
‘We have not received any such complaint and can’t investigate unless a complaint is filed,’ said Shailendra Pratap, station house officer of Dankaur police station in
Greater Noida.
