Two days before the Independence Day, the security agencies were taken aback when they discovered a live bullet inside the Parliament House complex.
According to the sources, during a surprise check in Parliament on 13 August, the bullet was found near the gate numbered 12C of the Parliament Annexe. 'Senior officers of the Parliament security were informed about the recovery and they reached the spot,' a source said.
The joint secretary of Parliament security P R Meena was not available for comments. Meanwhile, sources said that teams of the Intelligence Bureau were also called in and the bullet was examined by competent officers. 'We are trying to ascertain whether this bullet belongs to one of the security officers or if it had been procured through illegal means,' the source said.
The Parliament security officials, however, have not indulged the Delhi Police in the case yet and are probing the matter on their own. A senior Delhi Police officer said, 'We have not been asked or informed about this matter as yet.'
The source said that the security officers have begun questioning all personnel with weapons in case one of them had misplaced their bullet.
This incident has raised security concerns in Parliament, as the area is supposed to be the most-protected building in the country. Besides, the incident occurred just two days after the Independence Day, when security operations are at their best.
