Listen to inner voice, Sangma to legislators

Hoping that legislators and MPs would hear the call of their conscience, BJP-backed presidential candidate PA Sangma said that they would not vote in favour of a person whose performance as Finance Minister has put the country to shame.

‘Corruption is on the rise. The prices of essential commodities are out of reach of common man. The devaluation of Indian rupee continues and now the people world over are questioning India’s economic policies. Who is responsible for this? The finance minister. So, I believe the legislators and MPs would hear their conscience and will not vote for such a man who has brought shame to India,’ PA Sangma, the BJP-backed presidential candidate told reporters here.

He said this had happened once in 1969 when voters voted as per their conscience leading to the victory of VV Giri. ‘The same thing could happen now,’ he said.

He also raised serious objection to UPA government’s attempt to lure the regional parties through financial package or asking the investigating agencies to go slow against them in DA case. 'The sanction of financial package to the Samajwadi Party government of UP and misuse of the CBI in corruption case is enough evidences to prove that UPA is using unfair means to gain advantage in the Presidential polls in favour of Pranab Mukherjee,' he said.

Sangma said the act of the UPA was unethical. The Centre had announced financial packages for UP and Bihar recently besides Mayawati was given clean chit by Supreme Court in the Disproportionate Assets case.

Commenting on his talks with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee, he said that he had spoken to Mamata and she will reveal the name of the candidate her party would support 72 hours before the polling on 19 July.
