Liquor case: Cops to quiz Naresh Balyan within a day or two

Liquor bottles recovered in the run-up for Delhi Assembly polls has again come to haunt the newly-elected AAP MLA Naresh Balyan with the Police Commissioner warning of “coercive action” in case of non-cooperation. He will be called within a day or two, BS Bassi said on Wednesday.

Delhi Police had earlier linked the large quantity of liquor seized from an Uttam Nagar warehouse on January 31 to Balyan, then an AAP candidate.

Police had earlier sent a notice to Balyan to appear before it but he did not turn up, saying that he would be able to join the probe after the elections.

“First, we thought of calling him on February 8 but could not do so as our officers were busy in counting votes on February 10,” Bassi said.

“As our officers are now free, we will decide in the next two days. Police will call him within one or two days,” Bassi added.

The top police officer also dropped a hint that if the AAP MLA does not turn up and cooperate, “obviously coercive action is always an option” for the police.

Senior AAP leaders like Ashish Khetan, Ashutosh and Sanjay Singh had earlier met the Police Commissioner and requested him to allow Balyan to join the probe after the elections.
