LinkedIn study finds Bengaluru on top of global list of cities attracting tech talent

Bengaluru has emerged as the most popular destination for attracting technology specialists, beating cities like San Francisco, Seattle and Melbourne, as per a study by professional networking site LinkedIn.

Also, four other cities — Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai and Gurgaon — found place among the top 10 cities globally attracting people with tech skills. Other cities in the top 10 list included Austin, US and Sydney, Australia. ‘Technology is one of the primary growth engines of our economy, and governments around the world are investing in ways that attract technology talent to their cities,’ LinkedIn said in a blogpost.

By mining the information in over 300 million member profiles, LinkedIn identified several cities across the globe that attracted significant proportions of tech talent, it added. LinkedIn analysed 300 million member profiles globally for the study. The US-based firm has over 277 million members globally, of which more than 24 million users in India (as of February this year). Governments around the world including India are investing in ways that attract technology talent to their cities.
The incredible opportunity that India can provide to economies around the world is evident from the fact that half of the top 10 global cities with technical skills are from India, LinkedIn India country manager Nishant Rao said.

The three most popular categories of skills among the surveyed members were IT infrastructure and systems management, Java development and web programming.
