After two days of tension following the desecration of an ancient temple by a “mentally disturbed” person, situation in Jammu returned to normal on Thursday with the authorities mulling to revoking the suspension of mobile internet services.
“Situation has returned to complete normal and we are in the process of revoking the suspension of the mobile internet services by the evening”, said Simrandeep Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu.
He said no incident of violence or protest was reported across Jammu. “Barring a few incidents of protest on Wednesday, the situation has remained completely normal,” Singh said.
He said the decision to suspend the mobile internet services across the Jammu region was taken to check rumour-mongering which could have further vitiated the situation.
“Instructions have been given to the telecom service operators to restore internet services by this evening,” he said. The deputy commissioner said the police deployment would continue in the area for some time. “We cannot remove the entire police force all of a sudden and, as per procedure, police deployment would continue to be there for some time,” he said.
