To commemorate the death anniversary of Ghalib, Bharatiya Sangeet Sadan and Ghalib Memorial Movement have organised an event Yaadgar-E-Ghalib at India International Centre on May 17. The programme will comprise brief narration on Ghalib by Pavan K Varma (Author and MP, Rajya Sabha), Kathak Dance based on Ghalib’s Ghazals by Uma Sharma and Vocal recital based on Ghalib’s Ghazal by Anita Singhvi.
Uma’s dance will seek to interpret the traumas of Ghalib as he goes through various stages of feeling in his life.
The first is Ghalib as a romantic, the second as a jealous lover, the third as a man of infinite sadness, the fourth in a state of nostalgic remembrance of all that life held and the despair it brought. The finality with which Ghalib interprets the last flicker of flame..... as he said Ik Shamma Reh Gayee Hai So Woh Bhi Khamosh Hai will bring the beautiful composition to an end.
The event also includes a candle light procession to Ghalib’s Haveli from Town Hall, Mushaira in traditional andaz and a cultural programme based on Ghalib’s writing. This evening programme is a culmination of this year’s Ghalib’s Death Anniversary Celebration. So mark the dates!
