With the prevailing confusion over government formation in Delhi, Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung clarified on Thursday that no proposal recommending fresh elections was made to him by either Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) or any other parties and any decision in this regard will be taken after consulting President Pranab Mukherjee.
On probabilities of government formation in the city, Jung said that he would not divulge the details for now. ‘My lips are sealed. I cannot talk to you about it. This is between me and the President and I will talk to him about it,’ he said.
‘They (all the three parties) have not asked for a re-poll in Delhi,’ he said, adding that he will discuss the matter with President.
On Tuesday, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal had asked Jung not to dissolve the Delhi Assembly anytime soon, saying it will hold public meetings across the city to know whether the party should form the government again. Kejriwal had also written a letter to Jung requesting not to dissolve the assembly.
Criticising AAP supporters for staging protests outside Tihar where Kejriwal is lodged, Jung said no one should take law in their hands.
However, AAP gave up efforts to form a government in the city on Wednesday with Kejriwal admitting that chances of returning to power were ‘negligible’ in the current situation and apologised for quitting as Delhi chief minister.Â
