‘I called up the officers concerned at Delhi Development Authority [DDA], deputy commissioner of Karol Bagh zone of the corporation and Delhi police and asked them to submit the report at the earliest on ‘emergency’ basis,’ said M L Sharma, Additional Director of DDA, who is investigating into the matter. ‘We are expecting the report from all the agencies concerned within a week,’ added Sharma who is posted at L G Office.

In the news report published on 15 June, Millennium Post had raised the issue of ongoing constructions in various parts of the city and specifically highlighted the agony of Vinod Kumar residing in Punjabi Basti in Karol Bagh area. He was found runnning from pillar to post to get an illegal construction stalled in his neighbourhood, which had collapsed on 26 April, but the contractors restarted the work recently.

In that incident the under-construction collapsed on his house, injuring his son and wife.

‘The fear of another collapse in the coming monsoon season is looming large as the contractor has broken the police seal and re-started the construction. Even the police has turned deaf ear on the issue,’ Vinod Kumar had said.

Kumar had also appealed to Mira Agarwal, Mayor, New Delhi Municipal Corporation [NDMC] last Thursday. The mayor had directed the official concerned to take action.

‘Nobody, from any department had contacted me so far. The construction is still going on there,’ said Vinod Kumar to Millennium Post on Wednesday evening.
