Chief Secretary, SK Srivastava called a meeting of commissioners and asked them to submit a report on the progress of various development projects, on a weekly basis, especially those that have faced long delays.
They have been asked to upload the details of the projects online on their respective websites, with the names of concerned officials monitoring them. ‘This will bring transparency in the functioning of municipal corporations. If any project has been delayed, the officials will have to upload reasons behind the delay and the expected time of completion’ said a senior Delhi government official.
‘The online recognition to babus will not only bring transparency but also fix accountability. Delays in projects without any proper reason will lead to a departmental enquiry against the concerned official’, he said.
Many projects by the municipal corporations, like the Rani Jhansi road flyover, have faced delays for over 9 years. These projects never meet the deadline and no official has ever been found accountable for these delays. Delhi corporations had to complete 24 underground parking facilities before 2010 Commonwealth Games. With great difficulty, few were prepared before the inauguration of the event.
East, north and south municipal corporations have been asked to upload every local development and other works. Sanitation and garbage disposal is also likely to be included in the online scheme.
