Lecturer held for suspected dowry murder in G Noida

A lecturer allegedly hanged his wife (also an engineer) in Greater Noida owing to his unmet demand for dowry. The police have detained the accused and a case of murder and dowry has been registered on complaints of the dead woman’s father.

According to the police, Rajesh Rajput, a lecturer at Galgotia College of Engineering in Greater Noida, brought his wife Anita Rajput for treatment at Kailash Hospital at around 1.30 am on Tuesday. The doctors declared her brought dead and informed the police after noticing a mark of strangulation on her neck. After interrogation, Rajput told the police that his wife had committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan earlier in the night. But the police smelt foul play in his story and informed her parents.

Anita Rajput had just completed B Tech and was pursuing M Tech from the same institute. She was also faculty in IEC College of Engineering and Management in Greater Noida. The couple, both in their mid twenties, had known each other from their college days and married with the consent of their parents on 24 April, 2012. They were living in a rented flat at Beta-2 in Greater Noida.
