Leading MNC lawyer thrashed outside SC

The lawyer has alleged that the accused, who also threatened to kill him, were hired by an India-based oral health care company, against whom P&G is fighting a case.

The incident happened on the afternoon of 3 November when the victim, identified as Shailyamanju Singh was about to board his car with a woman colleague, outside the Supreme Court. They had just come out after the hearing of a case which the P&G is fighting against an oral health care product exporter JHS Svendgaard.

Suddenly, three youths approached towards them, pulled open the door of the car and allegedly started beating Singh. One of them pulled out a knife, held it near Singh’s throat and threatened to kill him if he came for hearing again. An FIR has been registered at Tilak Marg police station.

When a crowd started to gather around the crime scene, the accused fled in different direction, leaving Singh injured. One of the accused was caught by Singh and handed over to police. The accused has been identified as Anup Das (22), a resident of South Delhi’s Munirka, said a police officer. The other two accused — Nitin (22) and Ajay (26) were also handed over to the police by the passersby, who chased them.

All three of them were booked under section 307 (attempt to murder) and section 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC and the case is being investigated, the officer added.

Meanwhile, Singh has also asked for police protection, fearing more such attacks in near future.
The officer refused to comment on the issue of providing police security cover the lawyer.
