Leader of bike-lifter gang held; 17 bikes recovered

The Police arrested a leader of a notorious bike-lifter gang at Jaitpur in south-east Delhi on Friday. The total number of stolen motorbikes recovered from this gang is more than the infamous Bunty-Julfi gang and amounts to 17. As narrated by the police, Julfikar (26), one of the two leaders of the bike-lifter gang is the fourth gang member to get arrested. The first accused, Samarpal, arrested on Wednesday, led police to the residence of Bunty – the other leader – and four stolen motorcycles were recovered from there. But Bunty managed to flee.

Samarpal also led the police to other gang members – Sonu and Kailash – from where more stolen motorcycles were recovered. On Friday, Smarpal led the police to the other gang leader, Julfikar, who was arrested and more stolen motorbikes were recovered. Bunty and another member, Shamim, are still absconding, said a police official. The gang used to steal motorcycles from Delhi and then used to contact Sonu, who forged documents for the stolen bikes. The vehicles were then handed over to Kailash for sale, the official said. Julfikar hails from Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh and works as a welder in Okhla. He started auto-lifting with Bunty to make quick money, the official added.
