A delegation of Dwarka Court Bar Association on Thursday met Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on the issue of creation of two more revenue districts.
Protesting lawyers at Dwarka district court also ended their four-day strike following an assurance from Dikshit that their demands will be considered by the government.
The lawyers were on strike protesting government decision to redraw jurisdiction of south-west district sub-division.
Led by Dwarka Court Bar Association president Naresh C Sharma, all executive committee members, lawyers, stressed upon the need of effecting reorganisation of sub-divisions with revenue districts on the basis of proximity of the localities with respective district courts.
After hearing the lawyers, Dikshit said that a committee has already been directed to look into the issue.
‘We have decided to withdraw our strike following assurance from the Chief Minister that our demand will be considered by the Revenue department,’ said Sharma.
Sharma said following reorganisation of the sub division, a number of areas in Dwarka have come under New Delhi sub division, which requires people in the area to come to Tis Hazari court for any legal matter.
Work at Dwarka district court remained paralysed for the fourth consecutive day on Thursday, due to the strike.
Earlier in the week, lawyers of the six district courts of Delhi abstained from work for a day to protest against the Delhi government decision to increase the number of revenue districts in the Capital from 9 to 11.
The lawyers lamented that the Delhi government decision to grant two additional revenue district courts, which will be located in the east and north area, will immensely harass the public, as the number of magisterial courts will increase, which will be a complete waste of ‘public money’ and eventually the litigants will have to bear the inconvenience.
Parliamentary Secretary to the Chief Minister, Mukesh Sharma, joined the members of Dwarka Bar Association in demanding reorganisation of sub divisions with revenue districts on the basis of proximity. Sharma also welcomed the creation of two more districts in the capital city, which would go a long way in bringing administration closer to public.
