Law student held for extortion threats

Delhi Police arrested a 29-year-old law student in connection with a case of extortion and firing at East Delhi’s Vivek Vihar. According to the police, the accused identified as Mohit Kumar made extortion threats to a car accessories dealer. He is a gang member of Western Uttar Pradesh criminal Sunder Bhati.
On May 6, at around 10.30 am, a car accessories dealer reported that two bike-borne men came near his house. When the complainant’s opened the door, one of them came forward and introduced himself as Balraj Bhati. Meanwhile, the other was on a bike. The duo threatened that if the complainant did not pay them money, he (the complainant) will have to face dire consequences.
Meanwhile, they also fired outside the house to terrorise the complainant, police said. Police further said that based on this incident, a case was registered under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of Arms Act at the Vivek Vihar police station.
“Through technical surveillance on the members of Sunder Bhati gang, police got to know that one of the members will come to Cross River Mall to meet someone,” added the official. A trap was laid and Mohit Kumar was apprehended. During sustained interrogation, Mohit disclosed that he is close associate of Balraj Bhati.
