‘Law Faculty issue to be resolved within one week’

The issue of derecognising Law Faculty is likely to be resolved in next five working days.

‘We are working together with Bar Council of India (BCI) to resolve the issue. We will make sure students’ interest is not harmed. Due to lot of festive holidays, things are getting delayed. But we are hopeful that issue will be resolved in next five working days,’ said Ashwani Kumar Bansal, Dean of Law Faculty.

The issue sprang up when BCI said that those admitted from 2011-2012 in Law faculty and passing out in 2013-14 won’t be enrolled as advocates.

BCI sent a notice to DU Vice-Chancellor on 3 September, in which it said that the university had not filed an application for affiliation and inspection by the BCI beyond 2010-11.

On 25 September, Bansal replied to the BCI letter and pleaded it will jeopardise the careers of 1,600 students who passed out this year.

Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP and former Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) chief Vijay Goel have sought Centre’s intervention in the matter.
