The party has given a second chance to two defeated councillors, close relatives of two city MPs but has withheld ticket of a candidate who lost the election by just 405 votes in 2013. Besides, allegations are also being made about neglecting migrated communities of Poorvanchal, Uttarakhand and side-lining candidates related to particular lobby.
Azad Singh, uncle of West Delhi MP Parvesh Verma has been again fielded from Mundka assembly segment. Singh, sitting councillor from the area was defeated by 7,134 votes by independent Rambir Shokeen from this assembly in 2013.
Singh was then mayor of North MCD and was obliged with a ticket only after he rebelled. Similarly, former Delhi mayor Rajni Abbi who lost the 2013 election from Timarpur to AAP’s Harish Khanna by 3,383 votes has again been given the ticket from the same constituency. But Jai Prakash, who lost the last election by 796 votes from Sadar Bazar has not been given a ticket this time. He is considered to be a close aide of Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Goel and was the general secretary of Delhi unit in his presidentship. Similarly, Kishan Gehot who lost the last assembly election to AAP’s Mahinder Yadav by just 405 votes, has been put on hold.
The nephew of South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri has been given a ticket from- Tughlakabad, the seat he had vacated after being elected MP. Bidhuri was three time MLA from this constituency and refused to support any other party worker but only his nephew Vikram Bidhuri.
However, Ajay Malhotra, the son of BJP veteran V K Malhotra has been put on hold. Ashish Sood, former DUSU president who served as general secretary in Delhi BJP and is presently the Vice-President has been denied a ticket but his junior in ABVP and former DUSU president Nupur Sharma has been given a ticket against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal from New Delhi seat.
“The party has denied proper representation to the Poorvanchal community this time. They have given only one ticket to Gopal Jha from Burari but last time six candidates were fielded,” said a senior Poorvanchali leader.
The people of this community- migrated from East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar; and have strong presence in at least half a dozen seats in the Capital. Last time, the BJP had fielded six candidates from this community. Similarly, the people from Uttarakhand region also claim improper representation in ticket distribution.
