Lady cop foils kidnapping attempt at Rajendra Nagar

The 19-year-old victim is a first year Hindi honours student at Delhi University’s Janaki Devi Memorial College. As the victim was walking towards her college, the accused, Sandeep (29), caught hold of her and urged the victim to come along with him elsewhere. When she resisted, Sandeep stopped an auto rickshaw and tried to force her into the vehicle.

‘It appears that the auto-driver had not sensed anything fishy in the beginning. But when he saw the girl crying and resisting, he asked her if she wanted to enter the auto voluntarily. When she refused, he drove away,’ said another police officer, involved with the investigation.

Speaking to Millennium Post, ASI Kiran Sethi, said, ‘I was going to the Tis Hazari Court on my two-wheeler. When I reached the Rajendra Nagar bus stop, I noticed that a youth was holding a girl’s hand in a suspicious manner. Witnessing the event, I went to the spot and asked the girl if she was being forced into the auto. In my conversation with the girl, I noticed that she was visually challenged. The victim answered in the affirmative and further told me that the accused was forcing her to be his friend’.

After hearing the victim’s story, Negi, who was not in her uniform, confronted the accused. ‘At that moment, the accused attacked me. I overpowered him and held him with a vice-like grip. At the same time I immediately informed the local PCR. The local police and PCR reacted on time and arrested the accused,’ she said.

Sandeep was found to be drunk during the incident. The officer said he was involved in a similar incident of eve teasing in the past. He works in a handicrafts shop at Connaught Place and also had a son. The girl was not acquainted with the accused. Sandeep has been charged with kidnapping and assault with intent to outrage the modesty of a woman.
