Labour dept directs employers to pay workers by cheques

Delhi Labour Commissioner on Monday directed all the employers to pay wages to workers by cheque. He also directed employers to upload their employee details like category, nature of work, bank account numbers, payment details etc on their websites.
Employers have been given 90 days’ time for compliance. No fresh license and no renewal of licenses and registration certificates shall be done by Labour Department under the Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Act, 1970.
Attention of all employers has been drawn to rule 25 of Contract Labour (Regulation & Abolition) Central Rules, 1971 and they have been directed to discourage deployment of contract workers on regular, permanent and perennial nature of job.
In case, it is not possible to do so, in that case, workers of contractor should be paid same wages for same and similar work as being paid to regular workers.
The labour department is organising regular work shops on occupational safety and health in association with industrial associations.
Experiences and best practices in industrial safety and health shall be discussed.
In addition to it, all district heads of the labour department shall also be organising interface meetings with trade unions of their districts to discuss effective implementation of labour laws for betterment of workers.
