Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Najeeb Jung on Thursday met Home Minister Rajnath Singh amid a demand by the Aam Admi Party for dissolving the Delhi assembly and holding fresh elections.
Jung, who was closeted with the Home Minister for about 20 minutes, is said to have discussed various issues, including the political situation in the national capital, official sources said.
The AAP had recently alleged that the BJP is trying to form a government in Delhi by indulging in horse-trading, a charge denied by the Home Minister himself.
The BJP has maintained that it was ready for fresh assembly elections in Delhi.
Meanwhile, AAP is going to hold a protest demonstration at Jantar Mantar on Sunday demanding dissolution of Delhi assembly. The party said it wants to expose BJP and Congress who are running away from fresh elections.
‘The double meaning statements and consistent u-turns by the BJP (Bhartiya Janta Party) on the current political situation in Delhi makes it clear that it is running away from facing fresh elections and wants to resort to the horse trading culture of politics’, said a senior AAP leader.
He also added that the Congress is directly supporting BJP by not giving it in writing to the LG and Supreme Court (SC) for dissolving Delhi assembly.
He further said, ‘The Delhi assembly was put under suspended animation in February this year. It has been almost five months now and none of the three major parties are in a position to form government in Delhi. We want the public to know that both Congress and BJP are deliberately avoiding fresh elections.’
