L-G forwards letter to Prez, seeks approval for govt formation

Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung forwarded a letter to the President of India, seeking approval for the formation Delhi government on Wednesday.

The Delhi government received a letter from the Election Commission of India, early on Thursday morning, approving the 70 newly-elected Delhi legislature members.

After registering an outstanding victory with 67 out of 70 seats in the polls, leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, Arvind Kejriwal met Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung on Tuesday evening, staking claim to form the government in the national Capital. Raj Niwas is waiting for the consent of President Pranab Mukherjee on Jung’s recommendation and dissolution of the President’s Rule. “Kejriwal is likely to be sworn-in as the Chief Minister on February 14, at the Ramlila ground,” said a senior Delhi government officer. Kejriwal also met President Pranab Mukherjee at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday evening.
