L-G brings Gujarat model on solar power generation to city

An eight-member team led by principal secretary (power) Arun Goel had visited Gandhinagar to study the steps taken by the Gujarat government to generate electricity through solar power. The team includes secretary (irrigation and flood control) Puneet Goel and secretary (environment and forests) Sanjiv Kumar.

Modi had asked Jung to consider the Gandhinagar experience in solar power generation, where the per unit cost has reportedly come down considerably. The PM suggested solar power generation for Delhi after the L-G complained about high-handedness of power distributing companies.
On Monday, the L-G approved the Gujarat model for solar power project. The committee had recommended 5 Mega Watt (MW) capacity power solar park. 

It was also recommended that solar power projects can be set up on dry drains, river beds flood and irrigation department. Delhi Development Authority may be asked to identify suitable lands near drains and river beds for the project. 

‘We may ask all govt departments to furnish details of all govt buildings availability of roof top which will help us to create data base,’ said senior officials.

‘Solar energy corporation of India is implementing a scheme for grid connected roof top solar Power projects for various cities across India including Delhi. Under this scheme developers are selected by SECI for each city through competitive bidding process,’ power secretary said.
