L-G asks depts to expedite efforts to meet target soon

In the meeting, Delhi Chief Secretary, Divisional Commissioner cum Revenue Secretary, Trade and Tax Commissioner and Excise Commissioner were present.

It is expected that the Election Commission might announce the schedule for Delhi’s upcoming Assembly polls anytime soon and it is assumed that after the implementation of the model code of conduct in the national capital, the expenditure will be reduced and revenue collection will improve.

The revenue collections have declined by Rs 3,000 crore in the current fiscal year between April- November this year.

Raj Niwas sources said that the L-G is worried over poor revenue collection and non-utilisation of planned budget. There are 11 departments, including rural development board, environment and forest, industries, election, revenues, SC/ST/OBC welfare training and technical education, trade and tax, general administration (GAD) and academics, which have spent less than 35 per cent of their allocated budget.

The Delhi government is likely to face the prospect of a cut-off from the allocated budget in the next financial year.
