Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan organised a two-day national workshop on human rights and gender sensitisation for directors of KVS Zonal Institutes of Education and Training as well as KVS teachers.

It was inaugurated by Avinash Dikshit, commissioner, KVS on 29April at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Old JNU campus in New Delhi. Four directors ZIET and 59 teachers from different regions of KVS participated in the workshop.

Shachi Kant, joint commissioner (training), KVS, gave the keynote address and briefed the gathering about the objectives of the workshop.

Dinesh Kumar, additional commissioner, KVS, spoke in depth about human rights violation and denial. According to him, ‘KVS ensures a congenial learning environment for all the students and teacher’s.’

Avinash Dikshit, commissioner, KVS, stated that gender is a socially learnt behaviour. Based on social expectations from men and women, gender equality is attained. ‘When neither male nor female has advantage or disadvantage, there is fairness and justice in distribution of benefits and responsibilities to the members of either gender. It also implies right education along with equal opportunity to both, boys and girls,’ added Dikshit.

He also emphasised that there is a need to sensitise adolescents so that their social behaviour is moulded desirably. This makes it imperative on the schools to inculcate sense of duty, tolerance and mutual respect among the students, he said.
