K’taka assembly polls on 5 May, result on 8 May

The Election Commission on Wednesday announced holding of assembly election in Karnataka on 5 May. The counting of votes would take place on 8 May. The term of the current assembly expires on 3 June. The model code of conduct has come into effect immediately.

Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath said the notification for the election would be issued on 10 April and the last date of filing nominations would be 14 April. The scrutiny of nomination papers would take place on 18 April. The last date for withdrawal of candidates would be 20 April and the entire process of would be completed by 11 May. The poll in Karnataka will be conducted at all polling stations using EVMs.

There are 224 assembly seats in which 36 seats are reserved for SCs and 15 for STs. The total electors in the state are 4,18,75,267. The commission has made arrangements to ensure availability of adequate number of EVMs.
