Zoomcar to include e-vehicles in fleet
Kolkata: Zoomcar, the country's largest shared mobility platform, will include e-vehicles in its fleet at a function in presence of state Transport minister Suvendu Adhikari on June 13.
Mahesh Babu, CEO, Mahindra Electric and Greg Moran, co-founder and CEO, Zoomcar, will be present at the function.
The state government is interested in introducing e-vehicles to reduce environmental pollution. It may be recalled that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, during her trip to Germany, had requested the top brass of BMW to set up a manufacturing unit of electric two wheelers in Bengal.
In the three day EV Expo 2018, held in Science City from May 11, there was remarkable footfall. The state Transport department has decided to replace the totos with e-rickshaws, which are safe and passenger friendly.
In New Town, air-conditioned electric buses have been introduced and the passengers can travel by paying Rs 10. There are no conductors and the bus drivers collect the fare themselves. Stations to charge the vehicles have also been set up.
Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) authorities have welcomed the state Transport department's move to include e-vehicles in Zoomcar's portfolio and hoped that some of them will ply in New Town which has been declared as a green city.
The Cycle Sharing scheme in New Town has become very popular and Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) has recently awarded New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) for introducing the eco-friendly urban transport.
