Youth's body found on Indo-Bangla border

Darjeeling: The body of a youth was found on the Indo-Bangladesh international border on Tuesday. An improvised firearm was also found next to the dead body.

The incident occurred in the Daspara Gram Panchayat area under the Chopra police station of North Dinajpur.

The deceased was identified as 23-year-old Mohammad Abu. He was a resident of Kalabarigach village under the Chopra police station.

Local residents claim that he was shot by the BSF on

suspicion of being a cow smuggler.

The Block Development Officer of the Chopra Block along with the police from the Chopra police station visited the site of the incident.

The body has been recovered and sent for post mortem at the Islampur hospital.

Sumit Kumar, the Superintendent of Police stated that a magisterial inquiry will be started.

"Only after the inquiry is completed will it be clear as to how the person died," the Superintendent of Police said.

Local residents claim that the youth used to run a "decorator" business and was not involved in smuggling. The villagers have demanded a probe into the incident.

With this region close to the Indo-Bangladesh border there has been a number of cow smuggling incidents in the past.
