Youth shot at for protesting against anti-social activities in Tangra

A youth was shot at by some miscreants at Tangra early on Thursday morning after he protested against their anti-social activities in the locality which triggered a palpable tension in the area.

The victim, Md Jurman was admitted to a private hospital with a bullet injury on his body. The incident took place on the D C Dey road. Police said that the victim was sitting by the side of the road when the two accused identified as Ayub and Bablu entered the area.

An altercation broke out between the victim and the accused when the former asked them not to carry out anti-social activities from the area. One of the accused suddenly took out a gun and shot him from point blank. They fired four rounds of bullets at the victim. A bullet pierced through his leg and Jurman fell to the ground.

After hearing the gunshot, the local residents rushed to his rescue. They found that the victim was lying in a pool of blood. He was rushed to a private nursing home by the local residents. The miscreants, however, fled from the spot immediately after the incident. According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect the accused came on a motorcycle.

Police said that the two accused were involved in various anti-social activities in the locality. They used to sell illicit liquor and narcotics to the local youth. The victim had been protesting against the incident for quite sometime. Police are investigating if the accused had hatched a plan to eliminate the victim as he had been constantly raising his voice against these men.

Police are not ruling out the possibility of an old rivalry between the accused and the victim. They are investigating if it was a result of a fallout between the two groups. The investigating officer has also started a probe to ascertain if it was a fight over who would take control over the area. A police picket has been set up in the area as tension prevailed in the area since the incident had taken place.

Police have started a raid to nab the culprits who are absconding since the incident had taken place. A detailed probe has been initiated and local people are being interrogated in this connection so far.
