Youth murdered over mild scuffle with worker in Regent Park area

Kolkata: A youth has been murdered at Regent park over a scuffle that broke out after the victim put paint on a middle-aged person's shirt.

The youth identified as Babu Das (24) was admitted to a private hospital in Tiljala since September 17, where he died on Monday afternoon. Later in the evening, investigators arrested the accused Santosh Das.

According to locals, Babu used to work at a grille factory in Regent Park area. Several such factories are there in the area. On the night before Viswakarma Puja, the work of cleaning and painting was going on in those factories. After the work finished, Babu along with some other grille factory workers from the neighbouring factories went for a walk. While making fun with each other, Babu all of a sudden brought out some paint and put it on Santosh's shirt.

Immediately Santosh burst with anger. Following a mild scuffle, Santosh brought out n iron rod and hit on Babu's head. As a result, he received a major head injury. He was rushed to a local hospital in the area. Later, Babu was shifted to a private hospital near Tiljala. However, on Monday evening, Babu died in the hospital. A complaint was filed by Babu's family members against Santosh at Regent Park police station on the day of incident.

Initially, a case was initiated against Santosh on charges of voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons (326 IPC). As Babu died, the charges have been changed to murder (302 IPC). In the evening, Santosh has been arrested and will be produced before Alipore court on Tuesday.
