An arm of a 28-year-old youth had to be amputated after he was pushed off from a moving train at Islampur in Malda late on Wednesday night.

Police came to know after speaking to the victim in Malda Medical College and Hospital on Thursday morning that three to four youth had befriended him on the train and had offered him spiked food.
He consumed the food and started feeling sick. They took away all his valuables and pushed him off the moving train.
Later, some local people found the youth lying unconscious on railway tracks between Kumedpur and Khurial stations. They informed the Government Railway Police who took him to Harishchandrapur Rural Hospital. But he had to be shifted as his condition was deteriorating with profuse bleeding from injuries on his left arm. He was shifted to Malda Medical College and his left arm had to be amputated.
He regained his senses on Thursday morning and narrated the entire incident to the police.
Police initiated a probe in this connection but are yet to arrest anyone. The police are trying to identify the accused. If needed, portrait parle of all the accused will be prepared.
It may be recalled that a similar incident had taken place in Howrah a few years ago. In that case too, portrait parle of the accused had helped police to arrest the culprits.
It may be mentioned that there had been repeated campaigns to make people aware that they should not take food or any sort of drinks from an unknown person/s while travelling in a train or a bus.
