Youth injured in shootout at Entally

Kolkata: A youth suffered injury when some unidentified miscreants fired at him in the Entally area on Tuesday night.
According to preliminary investigation, police suspect that it might be a result of a group clash over the possession of the area. Police have arrested two persons - Sukhen Das and Tapas Naskar in this connection so far.
They said that both the accused have been involved in various anti-social activities in the area.
Police said that the victim Chottu Roy (22) was sitting along with some of his friends on Pottery road at the Motijheel area on Tuesday
night when a gang of 4-5 miscreants came on two motorcycles. The accused had their faces covered.
One of the miscreants took out a gun and shot at Roy from point blank range. The victim received a bullet wound in his leg. Local residents alleged that the miscreants had fired 6-7 rounds of bullets but somehow they missed the target. After hearing the gunshots, local residents rushed to the spot and took the victim to NRS Medical College and Hospital.
Local residents said that anti-social activities are on the rise in the locality, which is nothing new. In a previous few occasions, there had been shootout incidents in the Entally area. The local residents also said that they were scared to come out of their houses during night.
According to police, the incident was the fallout of a gang clash between two groups led by anti-social elements of the area. Police are investigating the role of the victim to know if he had any rivalry with the accused.
Police said that Sukhen had been released from jail a few days ago while the other accused Tapas was released from jail two days ago. According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the accused might have targeted Chottu due to an old rivalry.
As there was tension among local residents following the incident, a police picket was set up in the area.
