World Older Person's Day observed at Swapno Bhor

Kolkata: State Women and Child Development department and Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (Hidco) observed the World Older Person's Day at Swapno Bhor, the only state-run organization for senior citizens.

On the occasion Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted "Today is International Day of Older Persons. You will be happy to know that @KolkataPolice runs a programme #Pronam for safety, security and health-related assistance for senior citizens of the city."

Three senior most members of Swapno Bhor — Nirmaladitya Majumdar, Madhusudan Dhara and Benoy Krishna Chakladar were felicitated by Shashi Panja, minister of state for Women and Child Development and Social Welfare. Altogether, 100 senior citizens from different old-age homes joined the function which was held at Swapno Bhor.

Each participant was given gift by the social welfare department and Hidco. Debashis Sen, chairman of Hidco was present at the function along with Leena Gangopadhyay and Suranjana Chakraborty.

Prizes were given to the winners of various indoor games like table tennis, card, carom board and Rabindra sangeet.

The competition was held at Swapno Bhor some months ago.

In the evening, a programme was held at Rabindra Tirtha where a theme song of Swapno Bhor was released.

The song has been written by Prasanta Maji and composed by Sutapa Majumdar. A cultural programme was held in the evening.

WHO has launched a digital app to improve care for older people.

After coming to power in 2011, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took the initiative to develop Swapno Bhor a meeting point for the elderly people.

It stands of 3 acres of land. There is a two-storeyed building that houses a library , an office and a huge lounge on the ground floor.

There is an auditorium where cultural programmes are held throughout the year. The women members of Swapno Bhor have set up a Rabindra Sangeet group.
