Women hurl acid at girl, accused arrested

Kolkata: A woman has fallen victim of acid attack on the Northern fringes of the city on Sunday.
The victim, Rajiya Bibi was returning home from her work place on Sunday evening when two women stopped her near Patipukur Station Rail counter under Lake Town police station and hurled acid at her.
After being alerted by the screams of the woman, locals reached the spot and rushed the victim to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. She suffered some burn injuries on her body.
On the basis of the complaint lodged by the victim's family members, police have started a probe.
According to preliminary investigation, police suspect that the complainant allegedly had relationships with the husbands of both accused women who hurled acid at her. Police said the impact was lesser as the victim tried to flee the place during the attack. She, however, suffered some burnt injuries on her body.
Police also came to know in the investigation that the victim was earlier involved in a quarrel with the accused on number of occasions.
The accused women also threatened her with dire consequences if she did not discontinue the relationship with their husbands.
It was learnt that the victim was later released from the hospital. Police have also arrested the two accused. They are being interrogated by the police in this regard.
