Women arrested for stealing foreign currency
Kolkata: Two women have been arrested by the police personnel of Detective Department's Watch section on Thursday for allegedly stealing huge amount of foreign currency from a man inside a bus.
According to police, on November 27, a person identified as Pawan Chug of Amritsar in Punjab lodged a complaint at the Hare Street police station alleging that someone has stolen his bag containing 4,000 Canadian dollars and 100 US dollars when he was in a mini bus. He also stated that just before his bag went missing, a woman was talking to her.
During investigation, police scrutinised the CCTV camera footages of the area and saw two women with such a bag. Later, the footages were shown to the sources to get information about the duo.
On Thursday, acting on a tip off, two Gujarati women, who were popular as Gujarati Gang, identified as Tara Ashoke Mali and Hansa Prem Solanki Sabarmati, in Gujarat were arrested.
After interrogation they confessed to the crime and told the police that they have local hide outs in Bandel and Uttarpara. During the search of their hideouts, 100 US dollars and 3150 Canadian dollars were recovered.
