Woman suffers miscarriage after kicked in stomach by in-laws

KOLKATA: A pregnant woman was allegedly kicked in the stomach by her father-in-law as the family does want her to give birth to a baby. In the incident, the foetus got damaged and the woman bled profusely. She was admitted to M R Bangur Hospital where the doctors informed about

her miscarriage.

According to the complainant, she was married to her husband in 2016 and got pregnant four months ago. When she broke the news of pregnancy to her husband and in-laws, they allegedly forced her to abort it.

"My husband repeatedly forced me to abort it and his mother told me that her son was not capable enough to bear my and the baby's expenses. As I refused to abort, they had beaten me up on multiple occasions," she said.

According to her statement, her father-in-law started beating her up on January 16 and forced her to abort.

All of a sudden, he kicked her in the stomach and left the victim wreathing in pain on the floor.

It is alleged that her eight months pregnant sister, who was staying with her, had also been beaten up for trying to save the victim. The complainant was immediately rushed to M R Bangur Hospital where she was admitted.

The doctors later informed that miscarriage had happened due to the kick. After the complainant recovered, she lodged a complaint against her husband and in-laws at Narendrapur police station.

Based on the complaint, cops arrested her in-laws and are conducting raids to nab

the husband.
