Woman found hanging at paramour's house

Mystery shrouds the death of a housewife whose body was found from hanging from the ceiling inside the house of a youth with whom she had developed an illicit relationship.

The incident took place at Ghoshpara area of Canning on Thursday morning triggering tension in the area. The local residents staged a demonstration in front of the police demanding the arrest of the youth with whom the woman had a relationship. Police later dispersed the mob and took the body for post-mortem examination.

Local residents first spotted the body hanging from the ceiling and informed the matter to her in-laws. They rushed to the spot and staged a demonstration. They also ransacked the house where the body was recovered from.

They alleged that a bottle containing alcohol was found inside the house. They alleged that the accused youth might have raped the woman before killing her by strangulating her and later hung her body from the ceiling. They told the police that the accused had been forcing her into an illicit relationship.

Police are yet to ascertain if the victim woman had committed suicide or there was any foulplay behind the incident. Police came to know that the victim, Shampa Mondal started living in a separate house from her in-laws after she developed an extra-marital relationship with a local youth Biplab Sen.

She had been residing in a rented house for the last few months. Police learnt that the woman was eager to return to her husband but the youth with whom she had developed an extra-marital relationship opposed her from doing so. The victim's in-laws, however, alleged that Sen called the woman to his house on Wednesday and later strangulated her to death. The body was later hung from the ceiling. They also registered a complaint against the youth at Canning police station.

On the basis of the complaint, police started an investigation in this regard and are conducting raids to nab the accused who has been absconding since the incident has taken place.
