As the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) — Kolkata indicated on Saturday, the city recorded maximum 36 degrees Celsius and minimum 26 degrees Celsius temperature on Sunday.
There are no predictions of rain in the next six to seven days and Kolkata witnessed another hot day on Sunday.
The RMC Kolkata predicted that the situation would get worse as temperature could go up to 37 degrees Celsius by April 1. So, the citizens should brace for a hot and humid week ahead. "It seems that the blazing hot weather will not spare anyone this season. Kolkata has once again come under the grip of heatwave conditions," a citizen said after finding out the weather forecast for the coming days. On Saturday, RMC recorded 35.1 degrees Celsius, which was maximum temperature. The minimum temperature of the day was 25.6 degrees Celsius, which was 3 degrees above the normal temperature in this season. Kolkata has already been witnessing abnormally high day temperatures for several days now. "This is not abnormal. If you can recall, it was the city which recorded day maximum above 38 degrees Celsius last April. Mercury had peaked on April 11 with 41.3 degrees Celsius last year, breaking the highest maximum temperature record in last 10 years," said a scientist. "But this year the hot and humid conditions have come a bit early," he said. The city is presently receiving south-westerly winds coming from the areas where the temperature is already high.
