Winter still eludes Bengal in second week of December, no dip in mercury for now
Kolkata: Winter seems to be eluding the state even in the second week of December following the impact of western disturbances, the Regional Meteorological Centre in Alipore said on Monday.
The weather office also said that the temperature may not dip further this week as the steady flow of the northern wind carrying cold is being interrupted by the western disturbances.
According to the weather office prediction, there is no possibility for winter to set in before next week.
"The city's temperature is unusually higher during this time of the year compared to the previous years. This has been caused due to the impact of western disturbances in. The temperature has gone up by a few notches in the past few days. The highest temperature in the city may hover around 30 degree Celsius, while the lowest temperature may remain around 20 degree Celsius," a weather official said.
The western disturbances may intensify and have an impact on the weather system on Wednesday, as a result of which the temperature will not go down further for the rest of the week.
The temperature will dip during the middle of December, after the western disturbances cease to have any impact in the state.
The northern wind that carries cold air to the South Bengal districts has been interrupted by the Western disturbances preventing people from feeling the winter chill.
During the last week, the lowest temperature had almost touched 16 degrees in various districts, before it suddenly started climbing.
There will be morning mists in some districts, while the temperature will be comparatively lower during the night hours. In the Western districts, the humidity level will be on the higher side. It may go up to 90 percent in case of some western districts, the weather office said.
