WBFDC to develop infrastructure in seaside areas for tourists

Kolkata: After successfully creating sufficient boarding facilities for tourists in hilly and forest areas in the state, the West Bengal Forest Development Corporation (WBFDC) has ventured out to develop infrastructure for accommodation of tourists in seaside areas as well.
At present, the corporation has resorts at different hilly and forest areas in the state, where tourists keep visiting almost round the year.
Now, WBFDC has decided to develop infrastructure at the seaside tourist spots. Digha has been chosen as one of the spots, where infrastructure will be developed.
Recently, the corporation wrote to the Digha Sankarpur Development Authority (DSDA), seeking help to get land where they can develop the accommodation facilities for tourists.
Udayan Guha, Chairman of WBFDC, said: "We wrote to DSDA authorities and they have assured all help to get us a plot where infrastructure will be developed to provide accommodation facilities to tourists."
It may be mentioned that the corporation prefers to get a plot close to the seashore. The officials of the corporation have already spoken to the top brass of DSDA and the former would be visiting Digha soon, to identify the plot where the infrastructure can be developed.
"The decision on whether a multi-storeyed building or resorts will be developed, will be taken only after the plot is identified," said Guha.
The WBFDC is also developing accommodation facilities at Tajpur. If everything goes as planned, then the facility will be thrown open for tourists by April 15.
With the development of accommodation facility at Tajpur and Digha, WBFDC is also going to leave its footprint in a big way in South Bengal.
It is one of the profit-making development corporations under the Bengal government and with several steps taken, the profit margin has increased since 2011.
It may be mentioned that a major share of the corporation's profits comes from the resorts and nature resorts in the hilly and forest areas in the state.
Now, the profit margin is going to increase manifold, once the accommodation facility at Tajpur is thrown open for tourists.
At present, WBFDC has its resorts in tourist spots including Garubathan, Lava, Lolegaon, Mongpong, Murti, Jaldhaka, Jhargram and Mukutmanipur.
WBFDC has brought in place the online booking system and it will also be made available for the accommodation facilities at Tajpur and Digha, which have witnessed an overall development with steps taken by the Mamata Banerjee government.
The increase in footfall at Digha has also prompted the development corporation to take up the project of developing tourist accommodations.
