WBCS officer found hanging at Midnapore hospital

KOLKATA: Mystery shrouds the death of a 32-year-old WBCS officer, whose body was found on the terrace of Midnapore Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday morning.
Police said the victim Samaresh Hazra was a resident of Chinsura in Hooghly. He came to Salboni in West Midnapore on January 8 for training purpose.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Samaresh attempted suicide on January 18 by consuming excessive number of sleeping pills and was then admitted to Midnapore Medical College and Hospital.
He was undergoing treatment in the hospital and was improving gradually.
All of a sudden he went missing on Monday. His family members lodged a complaint with the police and they also spoke to the superintendent of the hospital.
The police initiated a search but they failed to find him out. On Tuesday morning, some employees of the hospital found his body on the terrace of the hospital.
They informed senior officials of the hospital, who informed police.
Police went to the spot and found the body of the accused hanging from the ceiling of a room on the roof top. They sent the body for an autopsy and initiated a probe in this connection.
A senior police officer said it is yet to be ascertained whether he committed suicide or there is any foul play behind Samaresh's death.
The post-mortem report is quite crucial in this connection and police are waiting for the same.
Police spoke to some of his friends and colleagues of the victim to ascertain the exact cause behind the incident.
They will also speak to his family members to know why he had consumed sleeping pills on January 18 despite being successful in his career.
